ECONOMIC CONFERENCE.

PURPOSE OF THE ALLIES.

NO RELYING ON GERMANY.

Pabis, June 9. In the course of an interview M. Pokrovski, President of the Russian delegation to the Economic Conference, said the allies' purpose was to be independent of the German market and to obtain supremacy in the world markets, which victory in war would give. When Russia was reorganised and developed with the allies assistance, she would be an inexhaustible reservoir for allies and neutrals.

Baron Sakatoni, the Japanese delegate, said that Japan, by participating in the conference, desired to prove her solidarity with the allies. Britain's influence at the conference would be preponderant, and Japan hopes that Britain would forget her old free trade principles in order to reconcile her interests with those of the allies.
