NEWMARKET AFFAIRS.

A meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held last evening. There were present: The Mayor, Mr. J. McColl, and Messrs. A. Eagleton, C. Leek W. J. O'Meara, H. J. Cooper, F. Wade, P. Boone, and S. Donaldson. The manner in which the Auckland Tramways Company had carried out repairs to the tramway track in Khvber Pass was referred to by Mr. Eagleton. In many places, he said, the rails were two inches above-the road level, and were dangerous to vehicle traffic. It was resolved to ask the company's manager, Mr. Walldate, to meet the council on the ground at an early date. A request from the council's employees for an increase of 10 per cent, on their wages was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee. °
