Tisdali,vicar of Eltershe, arrived in Auckland yesterday afternoon after attending the General Synod of the„ Anglican .Churchy held in Christchurch. m? &r.L'Jisl3.i Mr. H. B. Martin, late scoutmaster of the Auckland district, has passed for active service, and expects to.,leave with the eighteenth reinforcements from Napier. Dr. F. W. Ward, one of the former editors of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, who has been on a visit to- England, returned to Australia in the Remuera. Dr. Ward disembarked at Hobart and proceeded to Melbourne.
Lieutenant Norman R. Davenport, of Auckland, has been wounded on active service. Advice to this effect was received by cablegram yesterday by his father, Mr. S. H. Davenport, of Epsom. Lieutenant Davenport was on the staff «f Messrs. Nicholson and Gribbin until'about a year ago.
Mr Charles E. G. Tisdall.. an. agent of liie British and Foreign Bible Society, stationed at Singapore, is spending a holi- a day at Takapuna. He is accompanied by Mrs- Tisdalf. Mr , Tisdall was bom in, Auckland, and has lived here for many years. For 10 years he was stationed in .Persia and Mesopotamia, and for the past eight years ho has been at Singapore.
Mr J J. Kinsey, a Christchurch merchant, who is well-known in New Zealand, having acted a agent for various Antarctic exploration expeditions, including the Scott and Shackleton parties, returned to New Zealand in the Remuera, which arrived in Auckland yesterday. He was accompanied by Mrs. Kihsoy and Miss Kinsey. Mr. Kinsey ha s been in England for the last two years on a pleasure trip.
Captain W. Gordon Barker, of the Connaught Rangers, arrived at from England by the Remuera yesterday. He was taken prisoner by the Germans in the retreat from Mons, and is visiting the Dominion to recover his shattered health after being in a German prison camp for six months, at the end of which period he was exchanged. Captain Barken is staying at the Grand Hotel, and will leave for Rotorua by the 10 a.m. express to-day.
Mr. A. E. G. Rhodes, chairman of directors of the Christchurch Press Company, returned to New Zealand by the Remuera yesterday morning after "an eight' months' trip to the Old Country." '"' The : principal object of Mr. Rhodes'a visit, to England ■was to see his son, who was invalided to England from Gallipoli. Mr. Rhodes, who is accompanied by Mrs.. Rhodes and his family, is staying at the Grand-Hotel, and the party will remain in Auckland for two or three days.
Captain J. Gaga Williams, of the 19th Royal Hussars, "Queen Alexandra's Own," who was recently appointed aide-de-camp to His Excellency the Governor, the Earl of Liverpool, arrived from England by the Remuera yesterday morning. . Captain Williams was with his regiment on the western front for a period of eight months. He received a bullet -wound in the side of the head, resulting in hia being invalided to England. Boon afterwards he received his new appointment, the duties of which he will take up some time in June. .... , .... ~ ...
