OPENING CEREMONY TO-DAY.

NEW PANMURE STRUCTURE.

The replacement of wooden bridges by structures of ferro-eoncrete is advanced a stage by the approaching completion of ' two new bridges in the Auckland Province^the bridge across the Tamaki River, at Panmure, in the Manukau County, and the Waimauku Bridge, in the Waitemata County. The Panmure Bridge, a tender for which was accepted in May, 1914, when completed, will be one of the most up-to-date structures in the province, and will have cost £13,917 10s. Five hundred and thirty feet long, it will stand 40ft above the water at high level. The building of the bridge is how nearing completion, and the work of making the approaches is being proceeded with as rapidly as possible. It is anticipated that the -bridge will be ready for opening about the end of June, and the Prime Minister has accepted an invitation by the council to officiate. The cost of the bridge is being borne principally by the Manukau County Council, which is contributing 75 per cent oi the total, the other 25 per cent, being distributed among local bodies of districts served by the bridge in the following proportions :—Auckland City, 8 per cent.; Panmure township 7 per cent. Mount Wellington Road, 5 per cent.; Ellerslie Town, 5 per cent. Mr. R. P. Moore is the engineer, and the contractor is Mr George Niccol.
