THE RUGBY GAME. SEASON OPENS TO-DAY. Consideeable interest is being taken in to-day's opening games of the Auckland Rugby Union's restricted competitions. It is known there are many good players under the age of 20 years, and it is expected the first-grade matches Trill provide interesting contests. "In past seasons most _ enjoyable football was often seen .in the junior matches, therefore it is quite possible that clever and sparkling Rugby will be seen at Eden Park. The strength of the various teams is as yet problematical, but to-day's play should give the public a fairly good idea of what they can do. The arrangements In to-day's first-grade matches are: Marist Brothers Old Boys v. Grafton, at Eden Park, No. 1 ground; Grammar School Old Boys* A team v. Grammar School Old Boys' B team. Eden Park, No. 2 ground; University A v. City, Show Ground. No. 1; University B v. Ponsonby. Show Ground. No. 9. The committee of the Parnell Football Club has had much trouble in getting teams together for the forthcoming season, •the club has an exceptionally fine record in connection with the great wax. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Kugby Union was held last night. The balance-sheet showed that the funds were increased by £83, while there was still a balance of £362 due to the New Zealand land U ? the New South Wales and QueensLast season £129 was distributed among schools for encouragement of Rugby. Alter some discussion, a motion was adopted: "That during the currency of the war the penalty in connection with the nonpayment of interest on loans bo not enforced. Officers for the current year were elected as follows:—Patron. Lord Liverpool; president, Dr. A. K. Newman; vice-presidents, to be nominated by various unions; hon. treasurer, Mr. E. Wylie; Management Committee. Messrs. G. H. Dixon, chairman, Laughton. Laurenson. Dr. MoEvedy, Pache, Hales and Gray.
THE LEAGUE GAME. NOTES AND COMMENTS. The Auckland Eugby Football League ha* arranged that senior matches be played •* Victoria Park, Devonport, And Otahurm to-day. City and Newton will meet at Victoria Park. Ponsonby and North Shore at Devonport. and Grafton and Otahuhu at Otahuhu. In each case the matches will commence at 5 p.m. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. Y.M.C.A.
