. VAGRANTS ECCENTRICITY. STRANGE TALE 125" COURT. Ah eccentric individual of rather rough appearance, who gave the name of Frederick Smith, was charged at the Police Court yesterday, hefore Sir. F. V. Frazer S.M., with being a rogue and vagabond.' having been found at night on premises belonging to the Auckland City Council. Senior-Sergeant Rotledge said the man was found in a tool-shed in Beach Road used by the City Council employees. Accused described himself as "The Right Honorable F. Smith." He had, he declared, written a letter, questioning the loyalty of Sir Joseph Ward, the Right Hon, W. F. Massey, and others, asserting that he was acting on the instructions of the British Secret Service. "I am the honorary active member of the British Secret Service,' Smith informed the Bench, "and I am "here waiting for orders from headquarters. I have been at the Bank of New Zealand and the Bank of Australia for a month." The senior-sergeant suggested a week's medical treatment and observation for accused, and the magistrate concurred, and made an order accordingly. As he was led away Smith asked permission to obtain his "insignia of office."
