ALLEGATION DENIED.
MR. PAYNE'S ASSERTION. " JJO RELATIVES AGAINST ALLIES." [BY TELEGRAPH.SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT-] Wellington, Thursday A statement by Captain Hotop, of the New Zealand Medical Corps, who is now at Featherston, in reply to an assertion made by Mr. J. Payne yesterday, was read in the House to-day by Mr. J. Allen, Minister for Defence. Mr. Payne asserted that a member of the New Zealand Medical Corps now doing camp duty had two brothers fighting in the German Navy. In a telegram to the Minister, Captain Hotop stated that Mr. Payne's assertion was false, that his only brother died five years ago, and that he had no relatives fighting against the allies. Mr. Payne : What's his nationality ? Mr. Allen asked, in regard to the questions being continually asked as to the nationality of certain people, that the public should suspend judgment" until they heard the true story. Mr. Payne: Hear, hear; that is what we want.
