YESTERDAY'S RESPONSE. | THIRTY-ONE REGISTER FOURTEEN MEN ACCEPTED. Thiety-one men enrolled at the central recruiting station yesterday. ■Of that number 14 were accepted, 11 were deferred and sis were rejected as unfit for active service. The Garrison Artillery Band played a programme of music outside the station last evening. Four recruits who were deferred at the first examination were accepted. One of yesterday's rejected men was suffering from deafness caused by the noise of big guns when serving in the American Navy. POSITION IN AUCKLAND. TOTAL OF 1231 ACCEPTED. The weekly progress return issued by the Defence authorities yesterday shows that up to Wednesday night a total of 1231 recruits were fit and available for future reinforcement drafts. Of that number 68 are prospective non-commis-sioned officers- An analysis of the return shows that 181 men have been accepted ii the Auckland military district during the past week. A supplementary return gives the number of infantry available for the seventeenth and succeeding draft*. The figures are :Seventeenth draft, 414; eighteenth, 275; nineteenth, 130; twentieth, 49; twenty-first, 9; twenty-second, 10; a total of 887' fit infantry on the district's books. The district is still 71 infantry short of its quota for the next reinforcement draft, which will be despatched to camp on May 30. The number of non-commissioned officers and men available and accepted for service in the Auckland military district is shown in the following table :—

SAMOAN RELIEF FORCE.
DRAFT BEING CALLED UP. Headquarters, Wellington, has asked the Auckland district to supply six details for service with the Samoan Force. Twenty men, six from Auckland, seven from Wellington, four from Canterbury, and three from Otago, are being called up to eo into camp at Narrow Neck, on May 25. They will not be put through a course of training in cs.mp: they will be despatched to their destination after they have been provided with uniforms and equipment.
