The application made to the Brisbane Arbitration Court to register the Architects, Engineers and Surveyors' Industrial Union has caused consternation in the) profession. It is considered derogatory to take the status of a trade union. Steps will be taken to combat the move. RELIEF OF SHACKLETON. NO LACK OF VOLUNTEERS. Sydney, May 18. The Sydney Daily Telegraph applauds the Government's readiness to assist in the Shackleton relief expeditions, and saya that if the Commonwealth and New Zealand can agree on a plan, there will be no difficulty in discovering the right kind of volunteers. PREFERENCE FOR UNIONISTS. Hobabt, May 18. The Trades Union Congress has passed a motion urging the Government to alter the Constitution so as to provide absolute preference for unionists, and calls on the Government to confiscate all net rent, in* terest, and profits over £300 a year.
