NEW BUILDINGS IN COUNTRY. The prosperity of country districts is evidenced by the new building scheme "which has been entered into by the Bank of New Zealand. New premises are in j ' course of erection at Kaikohe, and at Cambridge, and a new building is to be erected at Whakatane. Te Kniti is also to have its old premises renovated and brought into line with modern requirements. This step was necessitated by the greatly increased volume of business being transacted in country districts, and Messrs. Edward Mahoney and Sons were instructed to draw up plans for the works outlined. The new premises St Kaikohe are almost completed, and, when finished, will have cost £3492. The building is .of twostoreys, with a banking-room 33ft by 26ft, and is fitted with the latest appliances. Tenders for the Whakatane building we called yesterday. The plans provide for a two-storeyed structure, to be erected in the centre of the township. . The banking chamber is to be 37ft dv 28ft. * In Cambridge, work has been commenced on the new bank, which has frontages to two streets. The banking chamber will be' 28ft by 25ft, and additional accommodation is provided for a special dapartment of business in a small wing. The cost of the building is £4440, and it should be ready for occupation in November. The old bank at Te Kuiti is being remodelled on modern lines, and the banking chamber, which now measures 22ft by 30ft, win be enlarged.
