MANUFACTURE OF SHELLS.
WORK IN AUSTRALIA. STEEL DEFECTS OVERCOME. (Received May 17. 1.15 a.m.) Melbourne, May 16. The Minister for Defence, 'Mr. G. F. Pearce, announced that approved factories .were manufacturing 4in shells. The Broken Hill Company was progressing with the experiments, and had overcome the steel defects in the manufacture of 18pounder shells.
