RECRUITS' AILMENTS.
FREE TREATMENT '. SOUGHT.
The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board met last night. There were present: Messrs. M. J. Coyle, chairman, F. Dye, J- G. Rutherford, E. H. Potter, J. Howe, P. J. Nerheny, W. Wallace, A. Hall Skelton, P. M. Mackay, and Dr. Florence Keller.
Mr. Coyle was re-elected chairman for the ensuing 12 months. Committees as constituted during the past year were also reappointed, except that Mr. Wallace replaced Mr. Hall Skelton on the Finance Committee.
The Minister for Public Health, the Hon G. W. Russell, wrote asking the board to grant free medical treatment to recruits who were temporarily prevented from enlisting owing to minor ailments. 1 his course had been adopted by many boards in the Dominion. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee The secretary, Mr. H. X. Garland, reported on the recent litigation with Messrs. Whittome, Stevenson and Co regarding the house in Carlton Gore Road acquired by the board as a convalescent home. The chairman said that formal application had been made-to the Minister for his approval of the utilisation of the house as a temporary convalescent home In the meantime all was well at the institution.
«*« was deaded on the "commendation of the Costley Home Committee to call for tenders for an infirmary ward—the work not to be started until November. The committee reported that there were at present 256 inmate in the home.
