MINING NEWS.
HAURAKI REEFS. RETURN OF £1400. The manager of the Hauraki Reefs mine, Coromandel. telegraphed yesterday that he had crushed and treated 50 tons of general dirt and 1501b of picked stone for a return of 4820z of melted gold, valued at about £1400. WAIOTAHI. During the past week the tributcrs in the Waiotahi mine, Thames, commenced to treat a parcel of dirt, which they have been collecting for some weeks past. GOLDEN BELT. The manager of the Golden Belt mine, Nevesville, reports that the reef at No. 1 level continues to,, look well in the stopes, and the ore broken is of good payable quality. The ore crushed at the battery last week is of good grade, and the last vat filled assayed £4 13s per ton. WAIHI EXTENDED. Good progress has -been made during the past week at the Waihi Extended mine, Waihi, with the sinking of the shaft, the contractors reporting having sunk sft. Good country carrying quartz veins is still being met with as sinking proceeds. Some necessary alterations to the surface machinery have been made during the week.
