WOMEN IN THE CHURCH.

FRANCHISE BILL LOST.

OUTCOME OF PBIMATE'S SLIP. [BY. TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Christchuroh, Monday. A bill granting the franchise to women to vote at parish • meetings came before the General Synod to-night, but was rejected as the outcome of a slip on the part of the Primate. When the division was taken, Archdeacon Cowie, of Hamilton,' was improperly excluded owing to the doors being closed too early. The voting was : Bishop, 5 for, 2 against; clergy, 8 for, 8 against; laity, 9 for, 6 against. A majority of each order is necessary. Later the Primate admitted his mistake, and said if Archdeacon Cowie pressed for his vote he would have to allow it. Mr. Cowie did not press, and the former voting stood.
