VON DER GOLTZ'S DEATH.

HINT OF FOUL PLAY. i GERMAN PRESTIGE IN EAST. Times and Sydney Sun Services. (Received April 25, 6 p.m.) London, April 24. The bombardment of the Turkish position at Sannaiyat, in Mesopotamia, was continued throughout Sunday. The German press is lukewarm in its comments on the death of General von dcr Goltz, German commander of the Turkish forces on the Bagdad front. Several newspapers describe him as an admirable theorist, but unable to demonstrate his strategy in the present war. The newspaper Echo Beige, which was formerly published in Brussels, expresses doubt whether von der Goltz really died of typhus, pointing out that his death occurred immediately after the fall of Trebizond, for which he personally was responsible. The French press thinks the death of von der Goltz and the fall of : Trebizond will probably ruin German influence in the East.
