NATIONAL RESERVE.

THE AMBULANCE CORPS.

The first of tho season's series of lectures in connection with the Ambulance Corps of the National Reserve was given last night by Dr. Hope. The lecturer dealt mainly with the care of the sick and wounded, and detailed the duties that would fall to the lot of a hospital orderly on such occasions. He also spoke with regard to the orderly's duties in cases where an operation was necessary. He explained the uses of tho various instruments carried by a unit of the Field Ambulance.

This branch of the National Reserve training is one that is of great practical value to members. Ever since the formaj tion of the reserve some two years ago, lectures have been given in first-aid, a largo number of members having passed * their examination successfully. The more J advanced stages of ambulance work and -; home-nursing have also received attention, P lectures having been delivered each week. ' The course of training is the same as that . j followed by the Royal Army Medical | Corps, lectures being preceded by stretcher », drill and squad drill. The reserve re--3 ■ cently secured the services of a staffl sergeant-major as drill instructor, Dr t Roberton, who previously acted as captain to the Ambulance Corps, having taken command of the Medical Corps at the 3 Featherston Camp. Over 20 members of r the Reserve Ambulance Corps have en--3 listed for service at the front, two hav]j ing been kijled. There are 72 on the j Ambulance Corps' membership roll, and J it, is hoped that this number will increase now that .the new series of lectures has commenced.
