BAYFIELD SCHOOL PICNIC.
SUCCESSFUL DAY'S OUTING.
The annual picnic of the Bayfield public school, Heme Bay, was held yesterday, when over a thousand children and adults journeyed to Home Bay, Motutapu, in the steamer Kestrel. Delightful weather conditions prevailed, and the outing proved successful in every way. Everything possible was done to give the children a happy time, and this end was admirably achieved. Excellent sports were run, the school championship being won by H. Miller. The chief race for the senior girls was won by Enid Kitchener, while the victor in the old girls' race was "Violet Gwilliam, Hilda and Eileen Coulam running second and third respectively. The parents of the children and other Ponsonby residents were most generous in subscribing funds and prizes for the picnic. All the arrangements were excellently carried out by the headmaster, Mr. A. N. Bowden,' and his staff, aided by a committee of parents. The picnickers left Motutapu at 5 p.m., and were landed at the Ponsonby Wharf and The Ferries shortly after six o'clock, nothing whatever occurring to mar the enjoyment of the outing.
