Several Australian soldiers, charged, at Westminster Police Court with drunkenness and assaulting the police, pleaded that they had been drugged, and asked that something should be done to protect colonial soldiers from* this sort of thing. The Australian Provost Marshal gave evidence that in a good many cases soldiers became senseless after one or two drinks.', and numbers had been I robbed. An inspector of police I said he did not believe that the I soldiers had been drugged. Their I insensibility was probably due to I the drinking of raw spirits, which they purchased a bottle at a time.
