CONVICTION AT WELLINGTON. [BY TKIfGRAJ-n. PRESS ASSOCIATION.] "Wellington, Monday. A Mas named William Jam-as Smith was convicted at the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge of illicit liquor-soiling, and "as fined £25. The police described him as an old hand at the practice known as " lighthonsing," or carrying a bottle of whisky and making surreptitious sales in the street. Smith said he wis unable to pay tho fine, and the alternative wa.- fixed at one month in gaol.
