MINING NEWS.
♦■ NEW SYLVIA. The manager of the New Sylvia mine, j Thames, reports that repairs to the shaft [ are now well under way. It was expected j that the mill would be r--ady to start yesterday. One stope is going between the ! winze" and No. 3 rise. The reef is 3ft | •wide, and shows strong colours of gold. I In the stope going south of No. 2 rise the 1 ore is well mineralised. Repairs to the ! level south of the winze are now in progress. The drive on the Norfolk reef has been advanced loft. The footwall ha; been struck, and the reef has straightened up considerably. There is still a good flow of water coming out of the face, _
OCCIDENTAL CONSOLIDATED. Stoning on both the Occidental and No. 2 reels at No. 5 level in the Occidental Consolidated mine, Thames, was resumed last week. The manager reports that the Occidental reef has pinched in the stope, but continues to show dabs of gold when broken. The No. 2 reef shows little chance, and a little picked stone was selected when breaking down. The south drive on No. 2 reef lias been extended 6ft. A few dabs of gold could be seen in. the ere broken. In No. 6 level driving has been commenced eaj=t and west from the chamber. About Bft each way has been worked. Several auartz stringers have b« n n passed through on the west side, and the main portion of the reef should, not be far away. WAIOTAHI. During the past work the irfbtiters in the Waiotahi mine, Tr.ames. have l-->en making preparations Lr trying some dirt from the old Cure tip.
