SUNDAY LECTURES.
The concert chamber of the Town Hall was well filled last evening on the. occa- , sion of the second of Mr. ('. W. Lead-. £ beater's lectures on "New Zealand as a i Home of the New Race.*' In referring ! 1 to the rise and fall of nations, the speaker said that the souls of men, having learned , the lessons to be gained in one race, < passed on into another and higher form of l' civilisation. So with religions, schools of j ' scienco, and art. New Zealand, he claimed, !'• was a specially suitable ground for social J, experiments which could not possibly be | i attempted in older countries and this would |< bring into our midst advanced souls, entail- j < ing responsibility on our part to prepare < the way and help in their work. The lee- ' turer said that he proposed to devote the two remaining lectures of the series to dis- j cussing ways and means that wo might adopt in furthering this great work. j Mr. T. H. Martyn, the national representative of the Order of the Star in the Kast in Australia, delivered an address entitled, " Reasons for the Expectation of i a Wor'.d Teacher," to a large gathering in I the Masonic Hall, Belgium Street, yesterday afternoon. 'J~he speaker said that we had knowledge of the appearance of great teacliers of men in the past, as evidenced in the 400,000.000 of Christians, the 250,C00,000 worshippers of Krishna, the the 500,000,000 Buddhists. The message had ever been the tame, that of love to one's fellow-men. Wo could best serve Divinity by emulation of the principles taught by His messengers which brought peace, happiness and content to humanity. As great teachers of men had appeared in , the past, why not in the present and even more frequently in the future as men's capabilities were further advanced ?
