Newcastle, starting eight strong finished 180 strong. j NEW RECRUITING SCHEME. WARNING TO OPPONENTS. Melbotjene, January 10. ' The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Hughes, has warned disloyalists that anything done to prejudice recruiting, will be visited with condign punishment. He ' referred to the resolutions passed by various bodies advising people not to fill in recruiting cards as a most ill-advised proceeding. He believed that those voting for such measures had been misled by specious misrepresentations of the Government's scheme as a form of conscription. This was : utterly misleading, as the scheme differed from conscription as night differs from day. MUNITION WORKS STOPPED. PAYMENT FOR OVERTIME. Sydney, January 10. It is stated that a scheme for the manufacture of munitions at the railway workshops has been dropped owing to the men refusing to accept less than time and a-half in payment for necessary overtime. i COMMONWEALTH WAR LOAN . .
