HEAVY SENTENCES.

Amsterdam, January 9.

Many heavy sentences have been passed upon journalists, business men, labourers and others in Belgium for alleged treason, espionage and the distribution of seditious pamphlets. A man named Freelying, a former servant of the Belgian War Ministry, was sentenced to death for assisting a youth to join the Belgian army. Laura Agar, a needlewoman, was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
