COMFORTS FOR SOLDIERS.
NEW ZEALANDERS' GRATITUDE. A tribute to the kindness of the Auckland Women's Patriotic Association was paid by Trooper F. M. Ryan, a member of the reinforcements, in a letter addressed to the Mayoress from Lemnos Island. In acknowledging the receipt of gifts of two pairs of sox and boot laces to himself and each of his comrades Trooper Ryan stated that they were very much needed as they had so much marching to do. " It is such a great joy to us," he wrote, " to know that our people beyond the seas are doing good works for the boys who have come so far to do their duty at the Empire's call. Some of us no doubt will never come back, but, thank God, we can ,die an honourable death, and while wo can we will uphold the good name of the New Zealand troops."
