EAGER TO FIGHT.
TONGA OFFICIAL'S LETTER. The following is an extract from a letter received by a Christchurch resident from Tonga :—" I was sadly disappointed with the negative reply I received from the military authorities in Fiji regarding enlisting from Suva. This reply, however, will not stop me from getting away. I should have gone long ago had I not been bluffed into staying hero by several of the Government officials. They pumped it into my ear that by serving the Government hero I was serving my country best. Well, that attitude appeals to me no longer. I have approached the local branch of the Patriotic League of Britons Overseas with the object of receiving their assistance, and from all appearances they appear willing to assist two or three of us. who are Government officials. I am prepared to go to any depot provided they pay my expenses. The Government here has informed me that if I list it will not reserve my position, and 1 also forfeit all rights to a pension. Should I not o& sent away by the next steamer look up some wealthy patriotic- Christchurch gentleman and" mention to him that you know a man willing to offer his services, but owing to lack of finance he cannot get away from the tropics."
