MEMORIAL IN AUCKLAND. The erection of the memorial to the soldiers, sailors, and friendly natives who fell in the Maori wars will 600 bo completed by the Auckland branch of the Victoria League. The memorial will be placed in the public reserve in Symonds Street, at the intersection of Wakefield Street. The design chosen is that submitted by Mr. T. Advice was recently received from Mr. Macklin that the casting of the memorial was well in hand at the bronze factory in Paris. He expected that the casting would be delivered to him by the middle of September last. The sculptor's own portion of the work has been practically completed. The memorial will bear the following inscription:—'ln memory of the brave men belonging to the Imperial and colonia 1 forces and the friendly Maoris who gave their lives for the country during the New Zealand wars, 1845-1869. Through the war they won the peace we know." The main portion of the memorial consists of a granite obelisk, at the base of which there will be three shallow steps on each of the four sides. To the right of the obelisk provision has been nade 0 for a draped female figure in bronze. In the right hand a long palm-branch is upheld; whilst the New Zealand flag drooping! with its folds overlapping the upper steps' is held in the left hand. On the front of the obelisk is a panel in bronze, on. which is a representation of the Angel of Peace, uniting the British and the Maori.
