RUNAWAY AT HAMILTON.

DRIVER'S NARROW ESCAPE.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Saturday. A marvellous escape from a serious accident occurred 1 to-day. Mr. C. Harwood, genr., waa driving down Victoria Street in a buggy, when the horse's bit broke, and the animal took fright and bolted. The driver, who had absolutely no control over the horse, clung to the vehicle. When opposite the Post Office, a small stack of timber was encountered, which capsized the buggy and smashed it into fragments. Mr. Harwood was thrown violently out, but in falling he was struck by the wheel of the vehicle and thrown clear. This probably saved his life, and he escaped with only minor injuries. The horse also escaped.
