THEiR REMOVAL FROM PARIS. M. Dalimier. Under-Secretary of State for Fine Arts, relates in Lectures Pour Tous how the crown jewels in the Louvre were removed to a place of safety at the time when the Germans were threatening Pans last year. Tn» jewels were placed in _ a cheap travelling hag nought at a neighbouring shop for the occasion. M. Dahmicr, accompanied by M. Henri Marcel. Director of the National Museums, went on foot to the station carrving the hag, fearful lest they should be" assailed by some night marauder. They spent * sleepless _ night in a train crowded with panic-stricken refugees, until after what seemed an interminable journev they arrived at a little town in the" South of France, where the precious burden was deposited in the safe of a branch of a faris bank, where they still remain.
