ABSINTHE AND EXPLOSIVES.

The forbidden absinthe is being used now in France to make explosives. The Cooperative Distillery, near Pontoise, which supplies the Government shell factories with pure alcohol distilled from beetroots, finding itself unable to cope fully with the demand, has formed the idea of buying up the stock of absinthe in the cellar of manufacturers of the liquor. By chemical treatment this is being transformed into neat alcohol under the close watch of four revenue officers.
