SOLDIERS' CABLEGRAMS.
ARRANGEMENTS AT THE BASES. 1 [bt telegraph.— associatiox-.] Wellington, Thursday. A cablegram received by the Defence Minister from the officer commanding at Malta, in reply to inquiry made recently, states that New Zealand soldiers at Malta are able to send cablegrams without payment, the receiver defraying charges at this end, or they may pay for messages themselves, the amount being debited to them in their paybooks.
A, message from the New Zealand base at Cairo states that sick and •wounded New Zealanders in Egypt can send cablegrams by signing orders on the paymaster, the actual cost being deducted from their pay. The cables are sent by the paymaster, or army chaplains at the general base depot, or. in case of the New Zealand military hospitals, by medical officers.
