CONTINUOUS CHARGES ON THE ISONZO FRONT.
ITALIANS SWEEP TO VICTORY IN BLINDING SNOWSTORM FIRST TRENCH CAPTURED FULL OF CORPSES. Loxdost, December 8. An Italian soldier, describing the recent terrible fighting on the Isonzo front, says: "The battle lasted for a fortnight, with incessant, bombardment and continuous charges. Three charges in one day failed, the battle-cry ' Savoia!' echoing along the desolate valleys in vain. Many of our brothers laid down their lives, but we were undaunted. Suddenly, at midnight, in a blinding snowstorm, our battalion was ordered to attack. We climbed the precipitous heights, where snow whipped in our faces and we could hardly see a yard before us. There was no sign of the enemy until we were within 10yds of our goal. Then we heard a single cry— major's battlecry, ' Savoia'.' " We caught up the sound and fell on the trenches like a cannon ball. The first trench was full of corpses from the previous cannonading. We swept on, and carried the second and third' lines, th° Austrian survivors begging for mercy."
