THAMES MINE DRAINAGE.
♦ A meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday afternoon at the office of the secretary, Mr. -J. W. Nichoh Present : Messrs, C. Hudson, chairman, W. Baker, J. Coe, H. Hopkins, (i. Aickiu, and E. A. Borwn. Messrs. Earl and Kent, solicitors to the hoard, submitted an opinion as to the : position of the Kuranni and Moanataiari I Companies, both of which have gone into liquidation, while indebted to the board for drainage contributions. The substance of their advice with regard to the Kuranui Company was that the board should make an arrangement with the company to j which the assets are being transferred to I take over the liability, the Dosition being I that the liquidator cannot make the transl fer until all debts are provided for. As ito the Moanataiari Company, it was ex- ! plained that its liquidator wj\g of opinion I that he would be able to pay all claims in full. After some discussion, it was decided that the matter be considered further at the board's next meeting. The chairman made a statement on the subject of finance, showing that the contributions from companies unpaid on ! November 30 amounted to £569. and the | assessments for December would be £1110. I The board's present liabilities came to J £867, and the assets to £652, leaving a ; deficit of £215. .As against this there [ were salable stores to the value of £150. Mr. J. W. Niohol was appointed return- | ing officer for the purpose of the election lof members of the board to be held "in I January.
