NEWMARKET COUNCIL.

The Newmarket Borough Council met last I night. Present: The Mayor, Mr. Jamas i McColl, Messrs. 0. Leek, F. J. CMeara, ■ A. E. Eagleton, W. H. Hamblin, H. J. Cooper, F. Wade, P. 8. B<xrae and S. | Donaldson. Messrs. Stonpo and Margetts were reappointed valuers to the borough for the ensuing year at a fee of £20. The fee for registration of dogs was fixed at ss, and Mr. Jas. Wilson was reappointed dog ranger. A report from the sanitary inspector stated that the Newmarket district was entirely free from infectious disease a satisfactory condition of affairs which the Mayor forcibly contrasted with that of earlier years. The Mayor reported that in default of complete local information as to the names of Newmarket soldiers sent to the front, which it is proposed to register on a local roll of honour, the Defence Department would he asked to furnish the necessary particulars.
