The Advance Continues.
' "At noon we got orders to move off. We were surprised, as we understood that our lame, halt, sick and worn regiment had finished and new blood had to do the rest. Down from the outpost we went and spent that afternoon and evening nearer the firing line, but in shelter. A .good few were wounded all the same. " One narrow track was expected to let mules take provisions and water up to the firing line, let reinforcements go up and a constant stream of stretcher-bearers and struggling wounded come down. The track was dotted here and there with a still figure, either a Turk or one of ours. "At 1 a.m., Sunday morning, August 8, we were awakened and moved on up the gully to its head, halting occasionally. We halted there awhile and then, about 8 a.m., -we got into groups of eight, and at a signal sprang forward and dashed for shelter under the next little slope. We lost five of our troop here. We rested till the afternoon here, but were losing men continually. Major Chapman, in charge, was killed, and a couple of shells landed amongst the llth3, killing and wounding several. One lost his leg.
