POLICE COURT NEWS.

SEQUEL TO COLLISION. CART DRIVER FINED. A sequel to a collision between a tramcar and a cart in Khyber Pass Road ear]y in September took place in the Police Court yesterday morning. William McKee was charged before Mr. E. W. Burton, S.M., with negligently driving a horse and cart. Evidence was given by tramway officials that, owing to the careless way in which defendant drove his horse and cart across the tramlines, a collision could not ha avoided . The bells of the cars were sounded loudly, but the cart swung across the rails, and was struck by the car. Defendant and two witnesses said that no warning was sounded by the motorman. The magistrate fined defendant £1 and costs £1 16s 6d. MINOR OFFENDERS PUNISHED. For fighting in the street two working men, James Kennedy and Edward Hodgson, were each fined £1. Two first-offending inebriates, who did not appear, were ordered to forfeit their bail. 10s, while one was fined ss. A fine of 10s was imposed on William Senior for a second offence. For entering licensed premises while prohibited. William Williams was fined £1. A similar penalty was inflicted on William Jaco-bson, who admitted procuring liquor and entering licensed premises while prohibited. ' BREACHES OF BY-LAWS. A youth, Phillip Clifford, was. fined 5s for riding a motor-cycle at night without a light. Fines of 5s each were imposed on Charles Kan and Frederick Collins for driving vehicles across the intersection of Queen and Victoria Streets at more than a walking pace. TRUANT CASES. A number of truant cases were brought before the Court by Mr. H. S. Small truant officer. The following parents were fined for failing to send their children to sc&ool: — Gorman Nicholson, 6s; Harry Putt, 6s; Thomas Wood. 8s: William Garrick, as; and John Collins, 4s.
