LIVELY WOMEN'S MEETING.

POLICEMAN CALLED IN. Probably one of the most animated meet- " ings of "women which has ever been held in Melbourne took place on September 23 tinder the auspices of the National Counof Women. There had been a great deal of feeling since the council declined to accept Miss AdeTa Pankhurst as a representative of the Women's Political Association, and the bitterness was accentuated in connection with a discussion arising out of an address by Professor Masson in favour of national service. The views of Miss Vida Goldstein and other representatives of the Women's Political Association were met by most vigorous protests from other representatives present. At one stage the noise from the disturbing party (the representatives of the Women's Political Association) drowned the voices of the speakers. One of the ladies left the hall and returned with a constable. The president, Mrs. Mclnerney (above the din): Order. Order. I will have to ask you to cease at once, or I will be forced to ask the constable to remove you. (Uproar.) It is very degrading to the council that an affiliated society can give such trouble. At this juncture Miss Goldstein's party and some of the members sitting near came to hot wcrde, and one angry woman -M said: "If yon dare to insult my boys, | who are fighting for you, I will give yoo 1 in charge. - :-£i Mrs. Pacing, Miss Goldstein, and about vpi half a dozen of the women left, among the |fs| hoots and hisses of the crowded meeting. -;q| The President: Ladies, ladies, I implore j i of von not to forget yourselves, ~^-'*W Peace then was restored. \ '0M ■''ill
