••• — ♦ | POPULATION STATISTICS. AUCKLAND IN THE LEAD. (From tie HERALD of September 30. 1865.) The following statistics, published in the New Zealand Gazette, of the population of the various provinces, show that Auckland, on June 30 last, contained then a larger population than any other of the provinces. While that of Dunedin was 46,898, the population of Auckland was 48,419, being one and a-half the population of Canterbury, and nearly three times that of Wellington. Males. Females. Total.
