GOING TO THE FRONT.
HARBOUR BOARD MEMBER.
MR. HUTCHINSON GRANTED
LEAVE.
Mr. G. R. Hutchinson, who is leaving for Tauherenikau as a captain in the Army Service Corps, applied, at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, for six months' leave of absence. During his absence from New Zealand, he wrote, he hoped to learn much that would be of value to the board. He asked for leave, thinking that the citizens would not desire him to resign his seat. The"" chairman, Mr. H. D. Heather, moved that six months' leave of absence,' with more if necessary, be granted, and that a letter of introduction under the seal of the board be given Mr. Hutchinson. He was sure, he added, that all the members of the board were proud that- one of their number was. going to the front (Hear, hear.) Mr. Hutchinson would carry with him the best wishes of the whole board. (Hear, hear.) Mr. A. J. Entrican seconded the motion The citizens, he declared, would be only too pleased that a man of Mr. Hutchinson's ability was offering his services at this time. Such action by an active business man"involved a large sacrifice. Mr. W. B. Leyland referred to Mr Hutchinson's as a conspicious example of sacrifice by a citizen controlling large interests. * The motion was carried unanimously Mr. Hutchißson briefly returned
