RUSSIA AND THE WAR.

The last of the first series of winter lectures held at the Grafton Library was given by the Rev. W. G. Monckton last night, when the subject was "Russia and the War." Mr. T. W. Leys presided over a large attendance. The lecturer said that in contrast to the German opinion that the Russians were a race of barbarians, they were really a kind, generous, simple, and sympathetic people. In the war they had shown themselves to be courageous, enduring, and chivalrous. Mr. Monckton traced the progress of the campaign in Galicia, and with the aid of lantern slides showing maps and pictures he illustrated the strategical difficulties the Russians have had to contend with.
