LAND VALUES LEAGUE.
The annual report of the Auckland branch 'of the New Zealand Land Values League eays the executive feels that during the year it has achieved something in forming the nucleus of a good organisation for future activities. Reference is made to the death of one of the vice-presidents, Mr. J. 0. Macky, who was an old member, and had rendered much help to the movement. Six public monthly meetings have been held under the auspices of the branch, A number of districts have adopted rating on unimproved land values, the total number of authorities in New Zealand having this system being now 135. The branch indirectly assisted at polls at Onehunga and Ayonclale, the former being a splendid win, while the latter was lost by only three votes. The executive made special representations regarding the anticipated in"crease of taxes due to the war, and is gratified that a further increase is to be made in the land tax. At the beginning of August, the first Dominion conference ©I branches was held in Wellington and a national executive for 1915-16 was appointed, with headquarters at Auckland \ .ewing the situation generally the exS tive considers that great progress has C»~ made along the pfltit five years. m ° blie
