SHELLS FROM GALLIPOLI.
INTERESTING SOUVENIRS. [BY TELEGRAPH.SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Friday. Font spent shrapnel shells on view in the House of Representatives have aroused I a good deal of interest. They are from the seat of -war, having been forwarded from Gallipoli by Chaplain-Major Luxford to his wife in Christchurch. The history of the souvenirs of war is told in a letter which accompanied them, and from which the following is an extract :—" One of tie shells smallest within 3yds of my dug-out on a Sunday morning. You will find that experts conclude from the marks on this one that the gun is the worse for wear and tear." The shells are evidently of Turkish manufacture, as they bear Turkish hieroglyphics. The 'small one to which Chaplain-Major Luxford refers has several indentations on the casing, which go to show the worn j condition of the mechanism of the gun j from which it was fired.
