NEW ZEALAND FORCES.

OCTOBER REINFORCEMENTS. TROOPS FOR TRENTHAM. TOTAL OF 1556 MEN GO INTO CAMP. In less than a month the Auckland district will be called upon to supply 1556 men for the third and fourth battalions of the Trentham Rifle Brigade and the ninth reinforcements, besides a further draft of 50 non-commissioned officers for the 10th reinforcements. The number of infantry required for the Trentham Rifle Brigade will be 634, and the total number of men for the ninth reinforcements, 922.

The levy upon the various military districts for the reinforcement drafts is being made according to the number of recruits passed as fit waiting their turn in each district. Upon this basis the percentages for the various arms to be supplied by the Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago districts have been set down as follows : —

Mounted Rifles: Auckland. 21.27; Wellington, 37.29 ; Canterbury, 26.70 ; Otago, 14.74.

3rd and 4th Battalions, Rifle Brigade and Infantry for ninth reinforcements : Auckland, 28.80; Wellington, 36.57; Canterbury, 22.81; Otago, 11.82. Field Artillery : Auckland, 20.78; Weilington, 44.98; Canterbury, 19.17; Otago, 15.07. Field Engineers: Auckland 36.24; Wellington, 40.60; Canterbury, 14.76; Otago. 8.40.

Signal Service: Auckland, 35.19; Wellington, 44.44 ; Canterbury, 16.67 ; Otago. 3.70.

Army Service Corps Auckland, 41.70 Wellington, 35.45; Canterbury, 13.80; Otago, 9.05. The provincial quota for the Trentham Rifle Brigade, as well as 44 Mounted Rifles and 47 members of the the Army Service Corps for the ninth reinforcements, making a total of 725 men. will leave the Auckland district for Trentham on Tuesday, October 12. The main portion of the ninth reinforcements, comprising 831 men, will leave for Trentham on October 19. The 50 non-commissioned officers for the 10th reinforcements will depart with the draft leaving Auckland on October 12. A medical examination of recruits for the reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force was held at the Drill Hall, yesterday. Forty-two men were examined, and 36 were passed as fit, including five for the Tunnelling Company of Engineers. The following are the names of the men accepted :— TUNNELLING COMPACT. Thomas J. This makes 35 from Waihi to date, with several applicants yet to be examined. The total enrolled far the No. 2 group to date is 64. PROPOSED SCOTTISH REGIMENT. CONFERENCE AT PALMERSTON. [BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] Palmerston North, Friday. An enthusiastic meeting of delegates was held here to-day to discuss the proposal to form a Scottish Regiment to go to the front, delegates being present from Takapau, Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Masterton, Mangatainoka, Waimarino, Ohakune, Rangitikei, Dannevirke, and Feilding. Mr. W. Oliphant wag the Auckland delegate. Mr. W. Gillespie (Masterton) said circulars had been sent to the leading Scottish societies from Auckland to the Bluff, and nearly all had replied in favour of a regiment being formed. It was decided that a deputation consisting of representatives of united Caledonian, Scottish, and Highland societies in New Zealand, and representing united Scottish interests, wait upon the Minister for Defence with a request that a kilted regiment, to be known as the "New Zealand Scottish," be despatched for active service forthwith.
