WORK OF THE CHAPLAINS. r Dean Talbot, who is a chaplain with the Australian forces, in a letter from Anzac, Sa y s: —" War, as we see it at the front, is a terrible thing, and nothing could, I believe, justify it to the Christian mind, except the firm conviction that we are fighting in defence of great and high international principles. In such a cause we have already made great sacrifices, and are i prepared to make "greater still, yet surely it behoves all who bear the name of Christ to be most fervent in prayer for the . speedy success of our arms and the triumpn of those principles that we believe '■c to be essential to the peace and righteous- . ness of the world. ... I am writing this in my ' dug-out,' which is a few yards from the reserve trenches. It is a little feC', place, Bft by sft, that has been scooped ' out. It is known as the 'deanery,' and . - boasts two biscuit boxes for a table, and a ;. beef box for a chair. As I write the s? billets are whistling - and the shells fe" • screaming overhead. The men are as ■ - fcheerful said as chirpy as cam be, - . ■ filkv .
