CONTINUOUS FIGHTING.
FAILURE OF ENEMY TACTICS.
" The country we are operating in at the present time is similar to Terawhiti, and mostly covered with scrub." Private C. W. Millar writes from Gallipoli, on July 1. The firing has not ceased for one minute since we arrived here, about a month ago, and we can hear the warships bombarding morning, noon, and night. I have been able to sleep through the heaviest bombardment for usually "we are all very tired by the time we have finished, after working from at least 24 to 60 hours at a time- The enemy have made several attacks lately, but have been repulsed, with heavy losses on every occasion, whilst we suffer but few. When one of our bombs drops into their trench they cry out ' Allah !' in most terrified tones. Not once have they faced our bayonets, so this proves that our foe loathes the steel. Last night the enemy made an attack and retiree! leaving over 250 dead. This often happens on "different points of the line."
