TAILORING DISPUTE.
INTRICATE POINTS INVOLVED.
The case in which the Auckland Tailors' Union (Mr. A. E. Skelton), claimed to recover a penalty of £50 from Schniedeman Bros. (Mr. E. J. Prendergast), tailors, for a breach of clause 14 of the Auckland Tailors' Award, was reopened in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The plaintiffs claimed the penalty on the ground that the defendants did, during the currency of the award, offer to certain employees various sums if they would work or take part in the distribution, of work known as the " team system," contrary to the provisions of the award. After further evidence had been given by the secretary of the Tailors' Union, counsel for the plaintiffs intimated that there was considerable dispute between the parties as to the facts. An attempt would be made to agree as to these. Counsel added that the legal points involved were very intricate, and many of them had never been settled by any court of law. If the case were proceeded with and a decision come to, an appeal would be made by the party against whom the decision was given. Counsel considered the best course would be to take the case to the Arbitration Court. It was decided to adjourn the case until next Thursday. s'j
