MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT.
Orders for payment forthwith, in default varying terms of imprisonment, were made in the following civil actions heard by Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday : — and W. Fowler v. Alexander, B. Rugg, Auckland, £1 9s; J. A. Colledge v. R. Fisher, Auckland, £16 15s lOd ; James Mairs v. William Myhill, Auckland, £1 10s; Hutchinson Brothers, Ltd., v.V.Lee. Cleaves Avenue. Auckland, £1 17s; Booth McDonald and Co., Ltd., v. H. T. Hill, Takapuna, £7 4s 6d.
BREACH OF LABOUR LAW. A charge of employing a waitress overtime, and failing to pay her at the rate of time and a-half, contrary to the provision of the Shops and Offices Award, was preferred against a restaurant-keeper named Andrew Gabriel (Mr. E. J. Prendergast). The defendant was also* charged with failing to keep a time and wages book. After evidence had been heard, the magistrate convicted the defendant on both counts, and fined him' £1 on the second.
