The ordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., -will be held at the head office, Queen Street, on Thursday, October 14, at 11 a.m. At the conclusion of the ordinary business, which will include the receiving of the report and balance-sheet, appointment of directors, auditors, etc., the meeting will resolve itself into an extraordinary general meeting for the purpose of considering a proposal to alter certain words in the articles of association of the company.

MILNE. AND CHOYCE, LTD. The annual meeting of shareholders in Milne and Choyce, Ltd., will be held at the company's office, 139, Queen Street, at noon, on September 29. In their 14th annual report the directors of the company state that the amount brought forward from last year was £12,070 4s. The net profit for the year is £8487 3s 2d, from which the directors recommend the following appropriations": Depreciation of alterations and additions, £1447 16s Id; depreciation of fixtures, etc., £1611 lis Id; dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum—of this amount £1600 was paid as interim dividend—£32oo ; directors' honoraria, £375; and that the balance of £13,923 should be carried fprward. "Taking everything into consideration, the results of the year's trading have been quite satisfactory,"" the report continues. ' Stocks are in first-class order, and have been most carefully taken, while ample provision has been made for bad debts and depreciation of all descriptions. In view of the disorganisation of the markets, it was considered advisable for our London representatives to have the assistance of one of our departmental managers, and Mr. G. Jennings has been acting in conjunction with them since March last. The wisdom of this step has been amply justified in supplies already in hand and coming forward. Of 11 members of the staff who have volunteered for active service, eight have been accepted, and their positions are being kept open." Messrs. L. J. Bagnall and T. S. Culling retire from the directorate, and, being eligible, offer themselves for re-election. Mr. W. R. Holmes, the auditor, retires, and again seeks re-election.
