GERMAN PAPER'S BOAST.
SNEERS AT THE BRITISH.
"DEFEAT" AT GALLIPOLI. (Received September 14. 10.30 p.m.) Amsterdam, September 14. The Fremdenblatt newspaper, published in Hamburg, sneers at the so-called failure of the oversea contingents at the Dardanelles. It says that since the Turkish entry into the war the world has witnessed nothing but Turkish heroism and wonderfully tenacious endurance. "The new troops which are constantly arriving to reinforce the allies," the paper continues, '' may come whence they will, but the Dardanelles will stand firm."
The last formidable British attempt at Suvla Bay, the writer proceeds, was prematurely announced as a victory, but it was a defeat, as the enormous losses suffered by the allies proved that the tenacity of Turkish defence was combined with lightning-like mobility. The British, says the paper, now admit that the Suvla Bay enterprise signally failed.
