CLAIMS OF THE ENEMY.
OPERATIONS IN RUSSIA.
GERMAN PROGRESS REPORTED
Amsterdam, September 13.
A German communique states: " General von Hindenburg ejected the Russians from several positions between Friedrichstadt and Jacobstadt. The Russians further south are avoiding an engagement. The Germans are pursuing them about 20 miles south-west of Jacobstadt. The German advance is vigorously proceeding along the Vilia, below Vilna, and has reached the Vilna-Dvinsk-Petrograd railway at several points.
" The pursuit continues east of Grodno. We repulsed several strong counter-attacks on the Lower Zelwianka and captured on Sunday 3300 prisoners, while Prince Leopold of Bavaria captured 1000 retreating Russians. General von Mackenseh has broken the enemy's resistance along the entire front and is continuing the pursuit in the direction of Pinsk. He repulsed several strong | attacks westward of Tarnopol, where ,the Germans are advancing."
