AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY.

,' CHAPLAIN'S WORK IN CAIRO.

The Presbytery of Auckland met at St. Andrew's Hall last night, the moderator, the Rev. J. M. Saunders, presiding over a large attendance. A. report on intercessory services in connection with the war was read by the Rev. A. Miller, on behalf of a committee appointed for the purpose. The committee recommended the holding of intercessory services every Thursday between 1.20 p.m. and 1-50 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce, which had been offered free of cost. The services were to commence to-morrow week, and to continue until the end of the war. or until otherwise determined. The services were to be open to all who cared to attend. It was also proposed that intercessory services should be held once a month for half-an-hour before the ordinary morning church service, or after tie evening service. The portion of the report relating to the mid-day meetings was" adopted, and that portion in connection with the addition to the church service was referred to the local kirk sessions for consideration.

In an interim report on the Avondale Church, the Rev. R. L. Walker suggested the division of the charge. Much necessary information, he said, had been collected, and the result of a canvass of the district was being awaited. The moderator reported on a visit of a committee to Ellerslie. The committee went exhaustively into the local conditions, and recommended that the presbytery be asked for a renewal of the church extension grant, of £20 for this year, on the understanding that the amount be iTiminished by £5 for each succeeding year. The report was adopted. The Rev. A. A. Murray informed the presbytery of the results of a committee's visit to Papakura, for the starting of a sanctioned charge at Clevedon. It was recommended by the committee that a new charge be established at Clevedon; that the stipend be fixed at £200, with house allowance, and that Drury and Papakura be made a distinct charge. AH the meetings had been characterised by unanimity.

The committee's report was adopted. The Rev. Isaac Jolly stated that he had remitted £75 to Chaplain-Captain. McDonald for the provision of extra comforts for the soldiers at the Cairo hospitals. He had that day made arrangements for the despatch of a- further sum of £23 3s for the same purpose. The following representatives of the presbytery nt the General Assembly were chosen —The Revs. R.
